| | Yesterday was my birthday and I had a great day! I hadn't really planned on doing anything special but my friends decided otherwise. I went to Brian and Amy's house for a wonderful breakfast (I had just finished a long 12 hours at work so the good food was appreciated!). Soon after getting home and right before going to bed my sister and brother called and we were able to catch up. I hadn't talked to either of them in a long time and both just recently returned to the US and are in the process of moving into an apartment in Columbus and looking for jobs. After a few hours of sleep I was up again, talked to Molly, and then went out to dinner at Mike's Tex-Mex with my friends. The food was wonderful and I'd have to say the best mexican food I've had here on Okinawa! We also enjoyed a yummy chocolate cake. I was completely stuffed! Thanks for all the fun guys! I finished off my birthday talking to my parents and hearing dad's stories of his visit to Myanmar. Not a typical day but truly a great birthday!

Iwo Jima Last week I had the amazing opportunity to go to the island of Iwo Jima
(now known as Iwo To). The trip was arranged through the hospital and
our group consisted of about 60 nurses, doctors and corpsmen. Unfortunately we only had 4 hours on the island which wasn't nearly long enough for me but the trip was totally worth it. We spent the 4 hours hiking to and then up Mt. Suribachi, as well as taking time out to see a couple bunkers/pillboxes. I also had the chance to collect sand from the beach. For someone who loves WWII history the trip was very memorable.
